Brisbane Roar is pleased to announce exciting attacker Joe Champness has joined the Club on loan for the upcoming A-League season.
The dangerous winger joins his hometown club on loan from the Newcastle Jets.
Champness, a former St Patrick’s College captain, returns to familiar surrounds at the Club following a successful stint in the Roar’s Youth team in 2016.
The 23-year-old has a wealth of professional experience under his belt having played in the Portuguese second division as well as making 36 A-League appearances for the Jets.
More recently, Champness spent almost a year in the United States pursuing a hip-hop career with his latest single My Plan closing in on 1,500,000 streams on Spotify.
After returning to Brisbane earlier this year, Champness says he’s thrilled for the opportunity to return to the Club.
“I’m buzzing to be back on the pitch here in Brisbane, surrounded by my friends and family. I would also like to say a quick thank you to the Jets for granting this opportunity,” Champness said
“People close to me know that I’m a very competitive person, always looking for that next challenge and I’ll give my all to anything put in front of me.
“This is my next challenge and I can’t wait to be back on the pitch in front of the Brisbane fans and doing my part to help this team & this Club hopefully win some silverware.”
Head Coach Warren Moon added: “We have all seen just what Joey can do with a ball at his feet and to have a young, exciting player like him in our squad is something we are very excited about and I’m sure our fans are too,” Moon said.
Champness joins the growing list of homegrown talent in the Roar squad following the additions of fellow Queenslanders Jesse Daley and Joshua Brindell-South last month.
