Zadkovich: Sydney Clash Chance to Prove Our Mettle

Brisbane Roar Coach, Ruben Zadkovich said Sunday’s Isuzu UTE A-League Round 20 clash against Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium will be a great opportunity for his side to prove their mettle.

Zadkovich picked up his second win at the helm with a 3-2 triumph over Melbourne Victory at Suncorp Stadium last weekend, moving Roar to within three points of the competition’s top six with eight rounds remaining of the regular season.

Roar are unbeaten in four matches at Suncorp under Zadkovich and look to build on their strong home form when they travel to face Sydney on Sunday.

The Sky Blues are also in strong form heading into Sunday’s match having defeated Western Sydney Wanderers 4-1 in the derby last weekend and are unbeaten in their last seven games.

Ufuk Talay’s side currently sit fifth on the A-League ladder with Roar able to move to within two points of them with a win on Sunday.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s match against Sydney, Zadkovich said that constantly improving is the squad’s main objective.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to be honest, we’ve had two wins from nine, away from home this year and it’s an area that we need to improve, so for me in this part of the process it’s all about improvement and that’s got to be our mindset, so we have to prepare well.”

The Roar boss added that, although Sydney are a strong team, the confidence gained from the win against Victory will allow Brisbane to prove their mettle.

“Obviously, they’re a good team but we’re confident that we can turn up and we can get the points,” Zadkovich said.

“I thought second half (Against Victory) we were really good and we did more of what we’ve been working on, so we’ll try and carry that confidence into this match against Sydney.

“It’s these type of games certainly as players but even as staff, top Stadium, top team, they’ve got one of the biggest budgets in the country with some with some star players and it’s a great opportunity for us to prove our mettle.”

Sunday’s match at Allianz Stadium kicks off at 4pm and will be broadcast live on Paramount+ & 10 Bold.
