27-year-old forward Asumah Abubakar joins Roar from Grasshopper Club Zurich, the former Portuguese U19 international, of Ghanaian descent, brings a wealth of experience and attacking prowess to the Roar’s frontline.
Abubakar’s professional journey began in the Netherlands, where he developed at Willem II before making a move to MVV Maastricht in the Eredivisie. In 2019, he transitioned to Swiss football with SC Kriens, impressing to earn a spot at FC Lugano in 2021. The following year, Abubakar signed with FC Luzern, making 62 appearances and scoring 17 goals before transferring to Grasshopper Club Zurich for an undisclosed fee.
A dynamic forward known for his blistering pace, technical skill, and goal-scoring instincts, Abubakar has nearly 100 appearances in the Swiss Super League, making him a valuable addition to the Brisbane Roar team.
Abubakar debuted for Roar against Newcastle Jets in Round 20 of the 2024/25 Isuzu UTE A-League season before scoring his first goal for the club in a 3-1 win over Perth Glory in Round 23 action.
