Biography
Premiership-winning central defender Leia Varley joined Brisbane Roar from Melbourne City ahead of the 2024/25 Ninja A-League season, making 18 appearances and establishing herself as a key pillar in the backline in her first season in Queensland.
The defender who also played for Adelaide United in the 2021/22 campaign, scored her first A-League goal in Roar’s record 8-2 win over Western United at Ironbark Fields in December 2024.
Varley lead a number of key defensive stats for Brisbane making a club best 5.2 clearances per 90, 0.8 blocks per 90, 2.0 interceptions per 90 while her 2.9 successful tackles per 90 were only bettered by Tish Woods.
In February 2025, Varley signed a new deal with the club, keeping her in Brisbane until the end of the 2026/27 Ninja A-League season.
The defender has also played in the Victorian Women’s Premier League for both South Melbourne FC and the Football Victoria Emerging Matilda’s Program.
