Young Roar make the trip down the M1 to face defending NPL Queensland Premiers, Gold Coast Knights in rescheduled Round 5 action at the Croatian Sports Centre on Wednesday night.
Karl Dodd’s side look to bounce back after having a three-match unbeaten run in the league halted with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Eastern Suburbs at Meakin Park on Sunday.
Goals from Bailey Ferguson and Laurence Cant had the visitors two goals to the good before Aaron Morris halved the deficit with an impressive individual effort to make it two goals in two games for the programs new recruit from Moreton City Excelsior.
Roar sit tenth on the NPL Queensland ladder on 14 points, six shy of seventh placed Knights ahead of Wednesday’s action at the Croatian Sports Centre.
Knights also look to return to the winners circle on Wednesday after suffering a pair of 2-0 defeats on the road against Peninsula Power and Olympic in their last two outings.
The 2023 and 2024 Premiers are coached by former Roar forward, Scott McDonald with their playing ranks including Rahmat Akbari and Bradden Inman.
The Croatian Sports Centre has provided a pathway to the top flight for a number of Queenslanders in recent years with both Austin Ludwik and Sam Klein both part of Roar’s Isuzu UTE A-League Men squad after arriving from Knights.
Joeys forward, David Bolongi joined Young Roar from Knights in February and was followed by Alfie Kemble, who debuted against Eastern Suburbs at the weekend after arriving from Knights in the mid-season transfer window.
The two sides have already met once this season and exchanged blows through Bradden Inman and Luke Nieuwenhof in a 1-1 draw at Lex Bell Oval in the Kappa Pro Series.
Wednesday’s match at the Croatian Sports Centre kicks off at 7:30pm and will be live streamed on FQTV and the Football Queensland YouTube channel.
