Brisbane Roar are delighted to announce that goalkeeper Matt Acton has signed a one-year contract extension with the club through to the end of the 2024/25 Isuzu UTE A-League season.
Townsville-born and raised, Acton started as a product of the Roar Youth system and signed his first senior contract with the club in July 2012, making his debut in 2013 in place of an injured Michael Theo.
After seven years at the Roar, the shot-stopper finished a stint in Myanmar where he played 14 matches.
The Under-20 Australian international then returned to the Roar for just under a season, before joining Olympic FC.
In December 2015, Filipino professional football club Kaya FC signed Acton in the United Football League, before starting his career with Melbourne Victory in November 2016.
Victory re-signed Acton for an extended three-year deal in September 2020, where he remained before joining the club last year.
Acton, who will continue to bolster the club’s goalkeeping stocks alongside Macklin Freke, said he looks forward to what is to come for Brisbane Roar.
“I feel honoured to continue representing Brisbane Roar, my family and I feel right at home again here in Brisbane,” Acton said.
“I feel the club’s going in the right direction under Ruben and the clubs’ management, and I’m excited [for] what the future holds for Brisbane Roar and to be a part of that into the future is something that I’m really passionate about.”
“I believe we are building strongly for the future and that success is not too far away for our group. We want to bring trophies back to Brisbane for our great supporters.”
