Brisbane Roar has bolstered its goalkeeping stocks with the signing of former NPL Queensland Goalkeeper of the Year Aidan Munford.
The 22-year-old ex-Sydney FC and Central Coast Mariners academy player joins the club on a short-term deal.
“I’m absolutely stoked to sign with the Roar,” said Munford, who links back up with Goalkeeper Coach Paul Jones after working with him successfully at Gold Coast United in 2020.
“It’s such a big club in the history of the A-League and I’m super stoked with the opportunity I’ve been given by Warren [Moon], Jonesy and all the coaching staff.
“I’m here to work hard, push Macklin [Freke] and Jordy [Holmes] to be at their best and of course I hope I can force my way into the squad at some point, but I’ve got a lot of work to do.”
Munford has trained alongside Freke in the past and attended the New South Wales Institute of Sport with Holmes when the pair were teenagers.
“We’ve got a really good dynamic going between us three and Jonesy and I’m sure we’re going to get the best out of whoever plays,” he said.
“I’m putting all the work in to make sure that if given the opportunity, I’m ready to take it and do the fans and the club proud.”
Head Coach Warren Moon said: “Aidan comes to us with really strong credentials at NPL level and a desire to make the most of this opportunity.
“He’s a good character to have around the group and we are pleased to have him here.
“The extra competition for places will have a positive impact for Macklin and Jordan and it strengthens us as a team overall.”
