FREIER: WE’RE READY TO GO COME SUNDAY

Brisbane Roar forward, Sharn Freier says the international break was a good time for the squad to focus on improving key areas as they work towards Round 7 of the Liberty A-League this Sunday in Canberra.

Roar will be aiming to return to winning ways as they head to the capital in pursuit of three points after not having won since Round 2 in a 1-0 victory against Sydney FC at home.

Canberra United are currently placed 12th in the Liberty A-League, while the Roar are in fourth place and just two points from breaking the top four.

Roar come into Sunday’s match-up fresh from the international break and prior to that, off the back of a 1-1 draw against Adelaide United from the double header at Suncorp Stadium.

Freier, who has started in all six rounds of the Liberty A-League thus far, believes the international break provided a good opportunity to regroup and prepare for Canberra away this weekend.

“The week [off] was really good, I think it came at a good time. I feel like it really gave us an opportunity to focus on some key areas that we need to improve. As a whole squad we prepared really well, and we made the most of it and we’re ready to go, come Sunday,” she said.

“I think they’ve had a few results that probably didn’t go their way, but they’ve got a lot of quality players in the squad, so I think that will really challenge us. If we just stick to our structure and the way we’re trying to play, I feel like we can get the job done.”

Freier has been a standout within the Roar side this season in creating chances and being pivotal on the left wing, attributing her continued improvement to the style of play recently appointed Head Coach Alex Smith has implemented.

“I’m feeling good. There’s still a lot of areas for me to grow and learn as a player, but I feel like the way Alex has us playing really gives me an opportunity to play to my strengths and hopefully I’ll be able to create something and help the team bring back three points on the weekend.
