ISUZU UTE A-LEAGUE MEN MATCH REVIEW OUTCOME: JAY O’SHEA

Football Australia has today confirmed that the red card Jay O’Shea was shown during Tuesday night’s match against Newcastle Jets will see him receive a one-game suspension.

On Wednesday, 24 January 2024, the independent Match Review Panel (MRP)-consisting of Simon Micallef (Chair), Alan Davidson and Alan Contini-convened to consider one incident arising during the Isuzu UTE A­ League Men matchbetween Newcastle Jets FC and Brisbane Roar FC on Tuesday, 23 January 2024.

The independent MRP considered an incident in or around the 45+4th minute of Brisbane Roar FC’s (Brisbane) Isuzu UTE A-League Men match against Newcastle Jets FC on Tuesday, 23 January 2024, in which Jay O’Shea (O’Shea) received a direct Red Card.

In accordance with the A-Leagues Disciplinary Regulations (the Regulations), the MRP has the authority to consider the incident as O’Shea was issued with a direct Red Card by the referee.

The MRP determined that O’Shea committed the offence of” Serious foul play (e.g. when challenging for the ball)”. The minimum sanction for the offence is a one (l) match suspension, being the Mandatory Match Suspension. The MRP confirmed that O’Shea will serve a suspension of one (l) match, being the minimum sanction for the offence.

The suspension will see O’Shea miss the Roar’s clash against Central Coast Mariners this Saturday 27 January. O’Shea will be back available for selection for Roar’s next home game against Wellington Phoenix on Friday 2 February.
