Five Brisbane Roar players have been selected in the Qantas Young Socceroos squad for the upcoming seven-day training camp, starting on Friday in Brisbane.
Corey Brown, James Donachie, Nick Fitzgerald, Jason Geria and Anthony Proia have all been named in Head Coach Paul Okon-s 23-player squad.
The camp will be used as preparation for both the AFC Under-22 qualification tournament (held in Indonesia in July) and AFC Under 19 Championships (taking place in the United Arab Emirates in November).
The latter will also serve as the qualifiers for the 2012 FIFA U-20 World Cup next June/July in Turkey.
āThis camp will be very useful to get an idea on the fitness levels of each of the players,ā Okon said.
āThis knowledge is important to know as we will be playing every second day in Indonesia at the U-22 qualifiers and it will be quite demanding on the players in the hot and humid conditions.
āThese are the first steps in what are going to be a very important six months in the lead up to the World Cup qualifiers.
āEverything we do now is geared towards preparing for this qualification campaign.ā
As part of the camp, the Qantas Young Socceroos will attend the 2014 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifier between Qantas Socceroos and Japan on Tuesday, 12 June.
The following night, the team will play a friendly match against Queensland State League side Brisbane Strikers on Wednesday, 13 June at Perry Park (7pm kick-off).
