Roar lock in Academy Staff

Brisbane Roar locks in it’s new look Youth Academy staff with a combination of Queensland’s best young coaches and Roar club legends set to work with the club’s next gen of talent in 2024.

The club’s academy staff will work to provide a platform for Queensland’s best youngsters to make the step up into professional football while ensuring that all aspects of player development align with Roar club philosophy and long-term vision.

Ex-Melbourne Knights, Olympic FC & Central Coast Mariners youth mentor, Ben Cahn who is widely considered as one of the countries best young coaches will oversee the Youth Program as Youth Technical Director.

Richard Greer, who arrives with extensive coaching experience in Queensland coupled with a professional playing career will serve as NPL Head Coach.

Greer will be assisted by Ex-Socceroo and Brisbane Roar Championship winner, Mitch Nichols, who brings a wealth of knowledge following a 226-game A-League career.

Another former Socceroo and Brisbane Roar star joining the club’s Academy staff is Robbie Kruse, who will work as a Development & Talent ID Coach, focusing on identifying and nurturing the next generation of talent.

Andre Bennett returns to the club’s youth academy set up as U23 Head Coach and will be assisted by Sekou Jomanday.

Tevan Sandhu will work as the academies Head Physiotherapist, bringing a proactive approach to injury prevention and rehabilitation.

Ryan Shackley has been appointed as the NPL Strength and Condition Coach while Kel Neil will work with the U23 squad.

“I’m very happy with the group of staff we’ve put together,” BRFC Youth Technical Director, Ben Cahn said.

“We’ve got a lot of hungry and ambitious people involved who are all very focused on providing the best environment and highest standards possible for our players.

“There’s a lot of knowledge and experience in the group, in terms of coaching, sports science and physical development and in terms of players who have played at the very highest level.

“We’re all looking forward to working together and pushing each other to help as many players as possible succeed in being ready for professional football and to support and guide the players at a vital stage in their human development.”

The work begins now for the club’s academy sides with pre-season commencing this week.
