Brisbane Roar has continued their dismal start to the Westfield W-League season, losing 2-1 to Western Sydney Wanderers at Suncorp Stadium today.
Both sides now have one win and four losses from their first five games.
Former Roar player Hannah Beard opened the scoring for the Wanderers before Tameka Butt made it 1-1 just before half time.
A Larissa Crummer own goal was the difference in the end, however, despite plenty of late pressure from the hosts.
The first clear chance of the match fell to Katrina Gorry, who was put through on goal by Larissa Crummer but had her shot blocked by Wanderers goalkeeper Trudy Burke.
Moments later the Wanderers were in front after Beard got on the end of a delightful Michelle Carney pass and finished coolly past Nadine Angerer.
Both sides created chances in an open first half but Butt scored a classy equaliser just before the break after being put through by Ayesha Norrie.
Brisbane continued to push forward after the interval, with Kim Carroll trying her luck several times from just outside the box, without success.
It was the Wanderers who went in front once again, however, taking maximum advantage of the first corner of the match to score through Crummer’s own goal, after a nice delivery from Kendall Johnson.
Brisbane poured forward in the closing stages but Burke was able to keep them at bay and record a much-needed victory.
