Brisbane Roar Women have played out a 0-0 draw away to Perth Glory in Round two of the Westfield W-League.
Both sides recorded first-round victories in the opening weekend of fixtures and stay undefeated heading into round three with the Roar now taking on Canberra United at A.J. Kelly Park, Kippa-Ring on Sunday, November 20 (Kick-off 4pm).
Saturday’s match was an entertaining end-to-end contest with both the Roar and Glory having a number of goal scoring opportunities in the blockbuster Westfield W-League clash.
Very little separated the two sides and in the end both clubs had to settle for a point a piece after being unable to find the back of the net during the 90 minutes of play.
Roar Captain Clare Polkinghorne was disappointed to not get all three points following a hard-fought 2-1 win over Sydney FC last weekend.
“We created a lot of chances but lacked that little bit of quality in the final third,” she said.
“Those final things in the final third really let us down today.”
A cool Saturday afternoon in Western Australia saw the Roar take on table toppers Perth Glory who were coming off an impressive 4-2 win against Western Sydney Wanderers.
Brisbane Roar goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold, returning to her former club, was again impressive for Brisbane, keeping the dangerous Perth Glory attack at bay throughout the match.
Arnold made a number of close-range saves from former teammate Samantha Kerr to help secure the side’s first clean sheet of the Westfield W-League season and a well earned point away from home.
“I’ve got a bit of history with Sammy [Samantha Kerr] after playing on the same team with her so I couldn’t let her score,” she said.
Danish import Nina Frausing-Pedersen (above) made her debut in Orange playing the full 90 minutes, while Tameka Butt, who only returned from Sweden mid-week, made a cameo off the bench.
The Roar will now head back to Brisbane looking to continue their good home form next weekend against long-time rivals Canberra United.
Talking point
It was the first game in this year’s Westfield W-League season to finish scoreless after an exciting Round one which produced 16 goals across four matches.
