O’Shea signs two-year contract extension

Brisbane Roar are delighted to confirm midfielder, Jay O’Shea has signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him at the club through to the end of the 2025/26 Isuzu UTE A-League season.

The 35-year-old Irish midfielder, who is in the process of obtaining Australian citizenship is in his fifth season at the club.

Roar’s number 26 has been a stalwart in the engine room, earning him the Gary Wilkins Medal twice along with a Player’s Player award in the 2019/20 season.

O’Shea has starred for Roar so far this campaign, topping the club’s scoring charts with four goals, the midfielder also leads the league in chances created, is second for passes completed and third for crosses completed.

In total the Irishman has made 111 A-League appearances for the Roar, scoring 21 league goals in that time.

The midfielder, who spent time at the likes of Birmingham City and Sheffield United before arriving down under said he was delighted to extend his stay in Brisbane.

“Obviously, it’s a special place for me and my family, we took a chance coming here in 2019 and it’s worked out to be the best move of my life and for the family also,” O’Shea said.

“This contract now confirms that this will be the longest club that I’ve ever served at, so that’s really, really special for me and I think the most I’ve ever been at is about five years.

“This contract will take me up to seven years at the club, I’m really excited to extend this deal and keep doing really well for the club and hopefully get some success within the timeframe of this new contract.

“I believe in the direction that the club has gone and that’s why i’ve fully committed my future, it was never the case for me to try and look what was going to be available in January for me or anything else like that.

“Once I knew that the club were interested in signing me, that was all I needed to hear.

“I believe that we’ve got ourselves back to a standard now at the club and it’s up to us to keep us there and to push on and make sure that this club is successful again, and I really feel that, that’s the direction the club has gone.”

Next up for O’Shea and his Roar teammates is a trip to face defending Premiers, Melbourne City in Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s Round 10 action on Thursday night.
